May 27, 2015 Juarez Trip

This team had members from age 10 to late 60’s and was a very eclectic mix of singles over 45, married couples, and college students. What fun we had together! We built a home for the Dominguez Lopez family in Pastor Miguel’s community. The whole family, particularly the father Otoniel worked very hard alongside our team and took great pride in helping to construct their new home. The family continually gave the glory to God for their new home and they were specific in their thanks to the many people who helped support this trip and make the home build possible. They told us all how they had prayed to God for a home and prayed for our team, our families, and for God to bring us to Mexico safely. They were also thankful to Pastor Miguel and worship with his community regularly.
The highlight of this trip for me, was being able to introduce my husband to the family and the student that we support through the Sponsor a Student program. My daughter and I met Glorya, Karen and Edgar in September of 2013 and have sponsored Karen in school through 4th, 5th, and now going into 6th grade. She works very hard at school and enjoys science the most. She dreams of being a scientists and one day traveling the world. Mother Glorya struggles to support her little family and care for her special needs son who is wheelchair bound. Glorya was given a sewing machine earlier this year and provided beautiful curtains for the home that we built. She takes tremendous pride in her work and is very talented. The curtains added just the right splash of color to the home.
It was also fun to see my husband reconnect with old friends at Missions Ministries after a few years of absence. Jesus, Leo, Susy, Chago, Raul, and Juan Carlos all remember his previous trips and it didn’t take him long to dust off his Spanish and communicate effectively with old friends and new. We can’t wait to return and continue to build these relationships that matter so much to us and to the Kingdom of God.
